An aspiring leader with a passion for economics, policy, and society.
Bigyan Babu Regmi is an economist based in Zurich, Switzerland.
Currently pursuing a PhD in economics at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich), Regmi has an MSc degree in Development Economics from the University of Oxford. He was a recipient of the prestigious Oxford Weidenfeld-Hoffmann Scholarships and Leadership Programme, a fellowship designed to educate and nurture future leaders.
Previously, Regmi completed his undergraduate degree in Economics from Duke University in the US, and he is particularly keen on issues pertaining to sustainable development, employment, infrastructure, social protection, and development financing -- mostly concerning emerging markets and the Global South.
He is actively involved in youth advocacy and policy thinking and has travelled to 20+ countries for conferences, leadership forums, and youth-led activities. Regmi is also currently working on the Better Future project, an initiative designed to accelerate bottom-up activities on SDGs. In the past years, among others, he directed the TEDx group at Duke University to organize its annual TED conference (1000+ participants), moderated the Global Goals Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (delegates from 50+ countries), helped design an elderly care program in Turrialba, Costa Rica, and co-founded a social enterprise for low-educated women in Iganga, Uganda.
Regmi is humbled by the opportunities that he has had along the way as he went from the village school in remote Nepal to elite educational spaces abroad. He is eager to acquire more knowledge and gain policy-level experiences and leverage them to become a change agent in his society. By furthering his technocratic competencies and advancing leadership skills, he hopes to contribute to Nepal's social-political-economic transformation.
